LAKE MARIVIN.Lake Marvin is also known as Boggy creek Lake. It was built in 1930s on Boggy Brook in east central Hemphill County by the Panhandle Water Conservation Authority. The purpose of the artificial lake is to conserve soil, flood control and promote wildlife. It has a 553-acre-foot capacity and was named after Marvin Jones who is a retired judge of the United States Supreme Court of Claims. To the west, Farm Road 2266 leads to the Panhandle National Grassland. The Gene Howe Wildlife Management Area is named after the Amarillo journalist, Eugene A. Howe .
